Art into Fashion: Inspirations & Infleunces

Roberto Capucci
There comes a time in everyone's life where one day their passion hits them like a ton of bricks. Let's just say I had to deal with a lot of bricks before I figured out what I want to do with my life. I never knew growing up what I wanted to be. I knew it would be a creative setting since I suck at math, science, politics and anything that have to do with taking things serious. I went through many phrases like wanting to be a partying planner, interior designers, dancer and even DJ. All those dreams came and went but one thing always stuck and that was my love of fashion.

I never really had a certain style or trend I like because I was interested in all of it. Love looking through magazines and seeing the street style and what all the celebrities was rocking. It just became this rush that had me excited all the time. Soon enough I started sketching and asking for my own sewing machine. Now, it's like I can't stop the madness of ideas that always rush to my head. If anyone was to ask what is my biggest inspiration , it would probably be between pop culture and art.

Pop Art
Pop Art
Living in Philadelphia, art has always influenced my life one way or another. We are known for our public art and murals, so I was always able to tour around my city and check out all the great art we have to offer. From mosaic art to indie art galleries, I love the art I see around me and it inspire the way I see fashion all the time.
Pop art, abstract and mix media is my favorite type of art to check out. I love the vivid colors and imagery that is showcase in all three types of art. It really helps me when it comes to textile designs, graphic designs and the draping of the garment as well.

Mix Media

Another major thing that inspires my ideas and the way I see fashion is media and pop culture. When it comes to pop culture ,I love the music, movements and films from different decades. Seeing the culture and lifestyle from decades like the 70's or 80's give me such a great feeling of nostalgia. It inspire my designs by giving it a retro flare that is now in trend.

Warhol Superstars in the 1960's/70's

Club Kids in the 1980's/90's
Both ties in so well with not only my personal style but the ideas I have for my own fashion label someday. I describe it as " urban bohemian punk" which is a really cool way to mix everything into one. I would also love to do avant-garde garments during runway shows and even costume designs. I have always love the avant-garde scene and would love to be a part of it.

I would love to start creating new designs and even start sewing my own mini collection for my own wardrobe. I figure if I sew and create for myself first, people would see what my style is when it comes to fashion. It would also be a great way to promote myself as a designer. I will start posting more DIY fashion projects by August and September. So, be sure to tell me what you think of my designs and  illustrations below in the comments! Hope to hear from you all!

What Would She Wear?: Think Pink. Just Another Summer Day.

What Would She Wear?: Think Pink. Just Another Summer Day.

What Would She Wear?: Think Pink. Just Another Summer Day.

As a young girl in my 20's interested in fashion, I tend to mix and match different fashion trends and styles. I love experimenting with fashion and different looks I fall in love with through blogs and magazines. That's why I decided to show off my personal style through the segment of "What Would She Wear" which shows off my personal style through different sets every week!

Anyone who knows me may know how much I love retro fashion especially from the 80's. It's fresh, loud and very colorful. All the things I love. I'm usually laid back with my style but every once in awhile I like to get loud with my personal stye. Check out this awesome little creation I made.

Fashion Review: Shady's Closet

Image from The Daily Beat

I've always wanted to be an online shopper because I find that most of the cute stuff is on the internet (plus that's where you find all the deals!) When I became a fashion blogger, I started to discover a lot of amazing brands and online clothing shops that I could see myself totally into. One that stood out was an online boutique entitled Shady's Closet.

Lip Service Venom Dress

Shady's Closet is an online boutique that sales amazing fashion for every type of girl with any type of style. From urban street fashion to sexy girl's night out, Shady's Closet have everything you need and everything you want in your closet. One of their stand out pieces was this sexy and chic 'Lip Service Venom Dress'. With the big trend of bodycon dresses this summer, this ultra sexy vinyl bodycon dress is a perfect fit for a summer night out! Best believe they have more amazing dresses like this on their online boutique.

Shade London Polo Crop Top

If the femme fatal style isn't the look your into, no worries! They have many other styles and trends included on their website. My all time favorite is their brand Shade London! Shade London is a London, UK based urban street wear brand that is hot on the streets of London right now. With Shady's Closet being the only U.S based online boutique to carry it, it would be a mistake to not take advantage!

Check out what the Shady's Closet brand had to say about Shade London here:
"Shade London is one
of the hottest urban streetwear brands straight from London, UK and
we're proud to be one of the few if not only US based online boutiques
to carry it and have it available domestically. No need to worry about
international shipping rates and transit times which is a great perk! We
wanna bring you the hottest stuff out"

One thing Shade London is most known for is their crop tops! Being one of the biggest trends this year, you couldn't go wrong in a Shade London crop top no matter what your wearing.

O'Mighty Bandana Skirt

Shady's Closet is such a popular brand that it's been getting recognition from all over including from well known fashion bloggers such as "ihateblonde" and "feralcreature". They even got a feature on electronic music blog 'The Daily Beat', being a brand spotlight on their website.

Shady's Closet is definitely a brand I look forward to seeing more from and very excited to purchase my own goodies from their online boutique. As the Shady's Closet brand would say.......

Fashion & Textile Discovery Workshop

Last week I was able to have the pleasure in taking part of Philadelphia University's Fashion & Textile Discovery Workshop and it was really an amazing experience.
Not only was I able to really get a sneak peek view of what classes at Phila U would be like but I was also able to see what my life as a fashion designer would be like.

I have been able to do many things with the fashion industry like volunteering at fashion shows and photoshoots but to be able to create my own knits and create my own garment in draping classes was such an amazing experience. I met a lot of great, creative people as well that really inspired me the entire time I was there.

Classes consist of draping, textile, printing, merchandising and fashion research. Of course, I based my fashion research and ideas on my trip to Capetown, South Africa and the bohemian lifestyle. I really love mixing bold prints with bright and vibrant colors, so I knew my images would reflect those ideas. I really did love being able to have a creative outlet and just let my ideas come to life.

It was really fun seeing what I can do and also seeing what some of my classmates could do too. It really has me thinking about how I can combine my love for textile and fashion into a career. I can't wait to become an official fashion student and officially start my journey into the fashion industry.  Be sure to check out more pictures below!

The Baking Series: Strawberry Lemon Cake

I know Strawberry Lemon cake sounds weird but it taste so good! I got the idea to make a vanilla cake with lemon icing instead of vanilla icing. I thought it would be very tasty and different then the usual flavor. But then another idea came to mind to add strawberries and vanilla wafer cookies. I thought it would add something sweet and special to the cake and trust me when I say it did!
I gather my ingredients which was very simple to make the cake. I used Betty Crocker vanilla cake mix, three eggs, 1/2 cup of vegetable oil and one cup of water. With that I mix the ingredients together to make the cake mix.

While the cake was baking in the oven, I cut up the strawberries for the toppings and added icing and strawberries to the vanilla wafers. Giving the cake that extra sweet touch.
When everything came together, this was the final result. I was proud of this cake and how great it turned out. It taste amazing too! I will soon make more baking creations this summer!
